1. About the competition

"YOUTH OF MUSIC" INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC 2021

MAY 2021, Bucharest, Romania

1. About the competition

 

“Youth of Music International Competition 2021” is an online competition open to young musicians up to 30 years old (instruments and singing), divided by 3 age categories.

 

The contest is designed for the solo category.

Chamber music groups are NOT accepted.

Current students or former students of the jury members from the past two years are not accepted in the competition.

 

2. Age categories

 

  • Category I - up to 18 years old

  • Category II - up to 24 years old

  • Category III - up to 30 years old

 

3. Awards​

​

EACH CATEGORY WILL HAVE ONE PRIZE WINNER.

​

The jury will also award additional special prizes to outstanding candidates in each category.

​

CATEGORY I

​

"YOUTH OF MUSIC" 2021 AWARD - WINNER OF CATEGORY I

  • 200 EUR (net value) 

  • Handmade Glass Trophy

  • Gala solo recital at the Bucharest Museum (recorded audio and video and broadcast online at a later date)

  • 2 nights accommodation in Bucharest on the occasion of the gala recital (for winners who live outside of Bucharest and Ilfov county)

SPECIAL PRIZES:​

  • OUTSTANDING TALENT AWARD: 80 EUR (net value) + diploma 

  • MECENA AWARD: 80 EUR (net value) + diploma

CATEGORY II

​

"YOUTH OF MUSIC" 2021 AWARD - WINNER OF CATEGORY II

  • 300 EUR (net value) 

  • Handmade Glass Trophy

  • Gala solo recital at the Bucharest Museum (recorded audio and video and broadcast online at a later date)

  • 2 nights accommodation in Bucharest on the occasion of the gala recital (for winners who live outside of Bucharest and Ilfov county)

  • ELECTRECORD SPECIAL PRIZE: 4 hours recording session at the Electrecord studios in Bucharest *

"YOUTH OF MUSIC" 2021 AWARD - WINNER OF CATEGORY III

  • 500 EUR (net value) 

  • Handmade Glass Trophy

  • Gala solo recital at the Bucharest Museum (recorded audio and video and broadcast online at a later date)

  • 2 nights accommodation in Bucharest on the occasion of the gala recital (for winners who live outside of Bucharest and Ilfov county)

  • ELECTRECORD SPECIAL PRIZE: 4 hours recording session at the Electrecord studios in Bucharest *

The handmade glass trophies are offered by Authentic Plaza

 

The three gala recitals of the "YOUTH OF MUSIC" 2021 award winners will have a duration of max. 50 min each and will hosted and recorded in June 2021 in one of the venues of the Bucharest Museums, according to the rules and regulations of the competition. Depending on the pandemic evolution, the recital date could be subject of changes.

 

The recitals will be recorded and broadcast online on the official channels of the Bucharest Museum and MuseArt Association. Prize winners will cease all performance & recording rights of the gala recitals to the competition organizers.

 

Accommodation in Bucharest will be provided for the prize winners (2 nights), if they live outside of Bucharest or Ilfov county.

4. APPLICATION fee

 

Participation fee/application payable in LEI (local Romanian currency) or EURO*: 

  • Category I - 200 LEI     (approx. 41 EUR)

  • Category II - 250 LEI    (approx. 51 EUR)

  • Category III - 300 LEI   (approx. 61 EUR)

*1 EUR = approx. 4.9 LEI

5. Competition jury

 

President of jury:

  • Alexandru Tomescu, concert violinist and soloist of the Radio Romania Orchestras and Choirs

Jury members:

 

The decision of the jury is final and is not subject to any complaints or changes.

 

Current students or former students of the jury members from the past two years are not accepted in the competition.

 

6. Application deadline

7. REQUIREMENTS for participation

7.6. A video recording made in 2020 or 2021, uploaded and sent as YouTube links, with the following duration:

  • Category I - max. 10 min

  • Category II - max. 15 min

  • Category III - max. 20 min

Recordings have to be uploaded and sent as YouTube links, mentioned in the registration form and in the email. "Unlisted" links are also accepted.

WeTransfer / Drop Box / Google Drive links etc are NOT accepted. 

​

video & repertoire requirements 

​

The proposed repertoire is at the candidate's choice, from the classical music repertoire.

Pop, folk or jazz pieces are not accepted. All pieces must be performed by heart.

​

Accepted videos must fulfil all the following requirements:​

  • solo or with piano / orchestra accompaniments

  • without audio or video editing

  • fixed angle with one camera

  • recordings from live concerts are accepted

  • nne-camera fixed-angle studio recordings are accepted

  • recordings made with a mobile phone are accepted

​

7.7. Short presentation video of max 1 min* (OPTIONAL)

​

*Brief self introduction video, similar to a short video biography in which the candidate introduces himself/herself and his/her repertoire/education etc). Max duration of 1 min.

The self-introduction video can be recorded on a regular smartphone and can be sent as a separate YouTube link or included in the repertoire video.

8. BROADCAST RIGHTS​

​

8.1. The competitor grants to The Youth of Music International Competition organizers the right to broadcast the application videos submitted by the candidate and the gala recitals. The organizers have the right to photograph, record, broadcast, live stream, reproduce, transmit, play, show and/or televise as part of a film, online series/platform or television documentary all the video and audio materials submitted by the candidate and recorded by the organizers during the competition  for the purpose of promoting the current and future Competition(s) .

8.2. The competitor grants to The Youth of Music International Competition organizers and its commercial broadcast partners the rights to include the  recital performance/s  recorded at the Bucharest Museums on any commercial CD or DVD recordings made or authorised by organizers.

 

9. Competition calendar*

​

  • Registration period: March 1st - April 25th, 2021;

  • Results announcement on the competition website: May 10th 2021

  • Recordings for online concerts: June 7th-15th 2021 (2 days);

  • Broadcast of online concerts:  June 15th-30th 2021;

​

*Due to the COVID Pandemic, the calendar might be subject to changes, according to the pandemic evolution.

 

10. EVALUATION criteria

 

The chosen program must highlight both the technical and expressive qualities of the candidate.

The jury will judge every candidate according to the following criteria:

 

  • Level of difficulty for the chosen repertoire: 25 points

  • Technical skills: 25 points

  • Artistic expressiveness: 25 points

  • Music style adequacy: 20 points

  • Stage presence: 5 points

​

Maximum score - 100 points

​

The candidate with the highest score in each category will be declared the winner of the category. In case of a tie, the President of the jury will have the final decision and declare the winner. 

​

The Online Competition is governed by the terms and conditions on  the "Youth of Music International Competition" official website.

The Jury’s decision is final and binding.

There will be no appeal process and no correspondence will be entered into.

​

 

11. About the organizers

 

The competition is organized by Bucharest Museum and Asociatia MuseArt.

 

Museum of Bucharest is a cluster of Romanian museums, located in Bucharest, uniting 12 museums and memorial houses. MMB has stated itself as an informational, cultural and educational center, an active center of a network of organisations. The museum is a landmark for the cultural communities in Bucharest, as well as for the academic and scientific environment.

 

MuseArt Association is a Romanian cultural NGO founded in 2013 aiming to support the career development of young musician at national and international level. The President of MuseArt Association is Romanian pianist Sinziana Mircea.
